What are you storing up?
Luke 12:21 “ “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
Luke 12:13-20 describes a man who had an overabundant harvest and his response was to build bigger barns to store it for himself and not share it. Verse 19 “ And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
This man’s trust was in what he had. Not only did he not share his abundant harvest he did not allow himself to enter a state of rest and joy until he had laid up for many years. When he thought he had enough surplus, then he told himself to be at ease and to eat, drink, and be merry. His focus was not on God but on earthly things.
Jesus goes on to say in Luke 12:20 ““But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’”
Our heart need not be focused on earthly things but on God. When our heart is focused toward God then He will give us what we need. See Luke 12:31 “But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.”
